Applications

Capture of extra or cheap electricity, safe storage, restitution in deferred time

The area of application is the implementation of stationary conversion/storage assets for balancing production and energy demands, and provide by discharging hydrogen on demand, a guarantee of energy availability medium/long term in the different forms: electricity (ElhyPower) via a hydrogen/electric converter), heat (ElhyHeat) via a boiler, gas (ElhyGas) directly used.

ElhyPower: Rechargeable » Net Zero Genset

Hydrogen electrical genset, based either on an internal combustion engine or a fuel cell, are experiencing significant developments, replacing polluting and noisy diesel genset. Today, they require the implementation of hydrogen logistics, transport and storage, which are regulated and often restrictive.

ElhyPower is an alternative solution which allows flexible electric charging on a network or a renewable source, ensuring safe, gas-free long-term storage, and releasing hydrogen/electricity on demand via the electrical converter. The solution allows you to overcome logistical and regulatory constraints.

The initial target sizing corresponds to 1 MWh of containerized storage, a prolonged discharge duration (>8h), a limited number of annual occurrences (<100/year) as opposed to and in addition to short-term storage (lithium battery type).

  • Back-up

  • Infra-weekly storage (weekend/week, wind intermittency, etc.)

  • Support for weak networks

  • Remote sites

  • Increase in individual and collective self-consumption

  • Supply to events

ElhyGas: On-site "gas-free" storage and generation for easier access to decarbonized hydrogen

ElhyGas is integrated equipment combining a supply of hydrogen with a limited capacity ( 1 to 10 kg/d) and associated with prior “gas-free” storage of 12 hours. The solution constitutes an alternative and complementary route to logistical supplies of hydrogen (“merchant hydrogen”). It is aimed in particular at hydrogen consumers (application developers, test benches, technical centers, industrials, etc.) faced with pressure storage installation constraints, or with occasional hydrogen consumption, in limited, discontinuous or batch quantities, or far from distribution centers.

The value proposition in a nutshell:

Continuity of operation: thanks to the integrated "gas-free" storage, you can guarantee the availability of hydrogen for your use, and generate your hydrogen on demand, at the desired flow rate.

Safety: you benefit from enhanced safety thanks to the absence of gas and pressure.

Competitiveness: you control your costs by becoming autonomous and benefiting from equipment tailored to your specific needs.

Sustainability: you reduce your carbon footprint through decarbonized electrolytic production and the elimination of transport.

Flexibility: you recharge electrically like a car and consume electricity when it's available (self-consumption) or at a preferential rate.

Simplicity: you have access to hydrogen without gas cylinders, or the associated logistical, siting and regulatory constraints.

Typical cycles (customizable according to needs) could be: overnight stock recharge for daytime hydrogen use, or weekend stock recharge for weekday use.

Scale-up ElhyPower:  Back-up for Data Center

The development aims to scale up towards 10 MWh then 100 MWh power plants with a discharge duration of up to 72 hours.

The solution meets the data center objective of eliminating diesel gensets by 2030. It constitutes a very economical solution (reduction by a factor of 10) in investment costs compared to a lithium battery solution.

It allows progressive recharging, with controlled conversion power, on the primary power supply of the data center, between 2 back-up requests or following a periodic start-up test (which can be enhanced by network services).

Finally, it is a massive solution that is secure in relation to the risks of thermal runaway from an accumulation of lithium, and in relation to the regulatory requirements (Seveso) of hydrogen gas storage in large quantities.
